The Post Study Work Visa permit – UK

Students from across the world have been traveling to the UK for decades now, especially from India. An education in the UK guarantees international exposure in the form of culture, education methodology as well as market knowledge and work strategies. A post-study work (PSW) permit is a visa indicating the permission of the government to continue living in the country with full-time working rights.

Although suspended in the past decade, the British government has brought back the PSW starting 2021. For students WEF from July, students who have graduated from an undergraduate or Master’s degree will be able to avail the benefits of this visa. They will be allowed to work for 2 years. For students who have completed a PhD, would be provided with a 3 years PSW permit.

Following are all the eligibility criteria:

  1. You should graduate in July 2021 or later
  2. You should have a valid student visa at the time of application
  3. You should have studied at a Higher Education Provider.
  4. You can apply from within UK
  5. Students need a CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance) from the university.

The current pandemic of COVID-19 has obstructed a lot of study plans. However, the students who could not attend on-campus but had to attend online classes and graduate in the summer of 2021 are eligible to apply for the PSW permit.

The intention of the UK government is to recruit and retain the best brightest talent. This will help students to not only study and learn from top universities but also imbibe the learnt education in the work place. This practical experience will help cement the knowledge they have gained before they build their growing career.

The UK government states, “Indian student numbers have significantly increased over the last three years, reaching almost 22,000 in the year ending June 2019. This was a 42% increase on the previous year – and almost 100% higher than three years ago. In addition, 96% of all Indians who apply for a UK visa are successful – meaning the vast majority of those who wish to come to the UK are able to do so.”  (source: www.gov.uk)

This is a gateway for students who are interested in gaining an international work experience and a global outlook towards their career choice. This is helpful for both students, the one who is looking to continue their career in the bigger world marketplace and the one who wishes to use this knowledge to improve businesses in India with their newly gained knowledge.
