You have a Backlog if you did not clear a subject in your first attempt and must take the subject again in the next semester in order to graduate.

- Maintaining a good CGPA despite having a backlog can overshadow your backlogs and thus makes you more eligible to apply for Canadian universities.
- Scoring high in GRE and TOEFL tests which are a necessary requirement for getting admission abroad will make your candidature high above all other applicants.
- The subjects of backlogs play a crucial part in backlogs acceptance in Canada. It will get difficult for getting admission if you got a backlog in one of the major subjects. Suppose, if you are applying to Computer Science, while you had a backlog in a major subject such as Programming Languages then the chances of rejection would be higher. While on the other hand if you had a backlog in a minor subject then your chances of getting admission to Major will not create much trouble.
- The number of attempts attempted by you for clearing your backlogs also signifies whether you are a bright student or a weak one. It is essential to note that the subjects in which you have backlogs should not be a major one and there are no repeated backlogs in any subject.
- There could be numerous reasons for backlog but the top two reasons are low grades and absenteeism. Scoring less in any particular subject will make your profile weak in that particular subject. But if the subject is a major one then this is going to create problems for the student. Absenteeism could be because of medical reasons or due to family or travel. If you were sick because of health issues then you need to give a medical certificate proof to prove the same to the university. Backlogs acceptance in Canada because of a family emergency or travelling to someplace and not being able to concentrate on your studies might appear to be a more serious one.
- Excluding some universities, most of the universities are strict about backlogs acceptance in Canada. Hence, you must clear all your backlogs before you apply to any of those colleges, you cannot apply with active backlogs.
Universities that accept backlogs in Canada –
- Royal Roads University: According to the National Survey of Student Engagement 2013, The Public University in Canada is ranked No.1 for Active and Collaborative Learning as well as No.1 for Academic Challenge. It has a scope of accepting up to 5 backlogs given the above criteria is met.
- In Ontario, Canada, the Wilfrid Laurier University, established in 1991, may allow up to ten backlogs. However, your candidature should be significantly strong based on the aforementioned categories.
- SPP(Student Partners Program) Colleges of Canada: Students with more than 10 backlogs may not be eligible to pursue a master’s degree, but they can apply to PG Diploma courses in the SPP Colleges of Canada.
